Packing List
General Information
□Pack your bag
with some empty space. You are going to go shopping and cannot bring an extra
bag back with you (baggage fees are already paid). This might mean bringing a
little bit larger bag than you think to account for your shopping. J
□You need to pack
just about everything in your checked bag. You do not want to be lugging a
million pound bag with you around the airports. See my suggestions below for
what bag gets what.
□Communicate with
your teachers ahead of time so you can be proactive on your school work. This
is your first trip of the winter season (with a few more to go). Earn your
teacher’s trust by talking to them BEFORE Thursday to get your assignments
and any work you need to complete while we are traveling. Please bring any
school work with you that is urgent and important to get done. Please be
responsible. This is what we expect.
□You will have to
be very careful with your purses etc while we travel – do not bring a lot of
valuables with you and try to not bring a lot of cash. Honolulu is a tourist
town and you have to be very careful as you sightsee. Travel in groups and
try to have an adult with you at all times.
□Be responsible
with your personal items. Put your name on anything and everything. Double
triple quadruple check everything before you leave, when you get there,
before you leave every day and before you go home.
□Oh yeah, let’s
have fun J
Money
□I would NOT
suggest to bring a lot of cash. If possible, get a pre-paid credit/debit card
(you can find them at Wal-Mart or grocery stores) or traveler’s checks. Some
cash will be useful, but not large amounts. We are pretty isolated out in
Honolulu so you have to really take care of your money. Once you’re out, you’re
out (unless Mom is on the trip too)
□For meals: two travel days, five lunches,
three dinners. $150-220. These are very liberal estimates. I’m sure you could
bring less.
□For souvenirs/shopping: This is very much
up to you and your family’s discretion. There is a little market near our
hotel with super cute souvenirs that you can barter for that are pretty
inexpensive. Their ABC Shops (not liquor – it’s Hawaii’s convenience stores)
have lots of souvenirs and good prices. There is also a HUGE mall and lots of
shops within walking/cab distance. Talk about what will be appropriate to
take with your child, especially if they are going alone.
□I cannot stress again to be smart and
careful with your money. We are gone for a week, and with the time change it
will be very difficult for your parents to save you if you run out of money
by depositing money in a bank account back at home. Make a plan for spending
and stick to it.
Carry On Bag
□Purse or
backpack, wallet with cards/cash for travel, photo ID!
□iPod/CD player
with batteries/charger/headphones; cell phone and charger; book;
entertainment items; camera and charger
□Gum, eye mask, neck pillow, etc for sleep
on plane
□SUNGLASSES
□I wouldn’t bring a pillow and blanket on
the plane. They will have them for you to use and it will make travel easier.
Maybe bring your pillow pet?
□Absolutely no toiletry or liquid items
OVER 3 OUNCES. They will throw them away faster than you can say “But but
but.. I didn’t know!”
□Absolutely no items that even look the
slightest bit suspicious – tweezers, nail clippers, scissors, knitting
needles, knives, guns, or just anything stupid.
□http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/index.shtmVisit this page for additional information
on airport travel. The TSA doesn’t mess around – don’t try to sneak anything
through. You will be polite and quiet as we travel – no exceptions.

if disposable), case, solution, glasses
